What activities and attractions are there in Slovenia for children? This would be my first question if I were to visit this small Central European country with kids.

Slovenia is just the perfect holiday destination if you want to keep your children busy and enetertained during your stay.

Nature's Wonders in Slovenia

It's amazing how a small country like Slovenia can be so versatile regarding its natural attractions. At one day you admire the steep mountains peaks soaring toward the blue sky, gentle, green slopes, speedy alpine streams running through valleys where you can pick colourful alpine flowers while by night you walk along Slovenia's coastline enjoying the warm, Mediterranean breeze blowing from the Adriatic sea.

Alpine Fun- Hiking & Biking

A great part of Slovenia is an alpine world with jagged mountain ridges of the Julian Alps, Karavanke Alps and the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.

Hiking on the easier tracks of the Triglav National Park can be convenient activity for families with kids too. Spectaular waterfalls, formidable cliffs, and the alpine plants and animals make the walking an exciting experience.

Rent a mountain bike if you prefer to explore the hills in a quicker way. Make sure you and your kids wear safety caps.

More active teenagers can try mountain climbing with the help of experienced tutors.

Conquering the Waters

At Lake Bohinj or at Lake Bled in the Julian Alps kayaking can be a fantastic way of absorbing the stunning scenery. The peaceful rivers Ljubljanica or the Mura are alos nice for rowing.

Easy rafting on the Sava river will be a real thrill for the whole family.

Though Slovenia coast suggest bathing in the sea, and lying in the sun windsurfing and diving spots provide entertainment for the the more active.

Snowboarding is a trendy sport among teeneagers and Slovenia offers plenty snow covered slopes to glide down on board.

The numerous Slovenian castles and fortresses perched on hill tops will be favourite spots for children. Most castles have interesting exhibitions and to see a medieval knight tournament will be fun and specatacular for all members of the family.

If your children just can't live without some form of modern entertainment than the larger Slovenian towns like Ljubljana and Maribor should be included in your list of places to visit in Slovenia. In Ljubljana's huge Arena entertainment centre you can watch a movie in the 3D Digital Cinema, play bowling or billiard.
